Follow the story around this beautiful Georgian building taking in domestic life and childhood in Colchester over the past 300 years.


Meet many different characters from the past and experience Colchester's fascinating history. Discover what family life was life for the rich and the poor. Then be transported back to the days before washing machines to try out a dolly peg and dress up as a servant.

 

 

 


Experience the miniature world of the Hollytrees dolls house and find out about the origin of the famous nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - which was written in Colchester!

Faces of Colchester Temporary Exhibition

This exhibition features faces captured by different artists over the past 4000 years. These range from the earliest depiction of the human form found in Essex to objects that show innovative methods of representation in modern art.

Hollytrees Museum will be hosting a special evening opening for the 'Faces of Colchester' temporary exhibitionn. Come along to hear a Curator's introduction to the exhibition, try your hand at portrait drawing with a professional tutor, see museum objects 'Out of the Box' and learn more about the characters featured in the exhibition. This event is kindly supported by Waitrose, who will also be providing cheese and wine tasting on the evening.
