Study skins

Bird and mammal study skins

What?

Study skins are specimens prepared to a basic level for the study of physical features. Unlike taxidermy mounts, these specimens are not mounted in life-like poses.

We have a good collection of prepared bird skins, around 3,000 specimens including many historical examples. These include specimens by R.H.Eve, J.J.Heath, W.Temple and work by T.E. Gunn.

We also have about 700 prepared mammal skins. These are mostly local species but we also hold specimens from further afield.
