Nigerian Face Masks
Ipswich museum has large ethnography collections which include material from Africa, Asia, North and South America, and Oceania. Highlights include a magnificent royal Hawaiian feather cloak and an exceptional group of Native American masks from Northern British Columbia.
Recently, we created a new display featuring Nigerian objects collected in the 1900s by researcher Charles Partridge, who was the first to study the Igala people of Eastern Nigeria. This permanent exhibition can be seen at the High Street Museum in Ipswich.
