Project Description:

Colchester and Ipswich Museums regularly works with the fostering teams at Essex and Suffolk Social Services. We run a mixture of one-off workshops and long-running projects for young people in fostering families. This work started in 2006 with the FAT Heritage Project and has developed since then. Projects have included animation, African drumming, drama and street art.

Animation Summer 2010- Penpal

Project Aims:

  • To provide heritage related activities for younger audiences to enable them to engage with local museum collections
  • To provide activities which enable both fostered children and the children within the families in which they’re living to work creatively together
  • The theme and content of the projects will be user led and reflect something of their experience of engaging with the collections at the museum
  • To foster new partnerships between Colchester and Ipswich Museums and Social Services
  • Widen community engagement in furtherance of Colchester Museum’s role as a partner in the East of England Regional Museum Hub
