Volunteering

Volunteers and Student Work Placements

The museum service provides regular opportunities for volunteers and work placements. Managed appropriately this brings clear benefits to the service.

In particular it:

  • Represents excellent value for money
  • Meets a clear customer demand
  • Involves the local community in caring for their own heritage
  • Supports the development of the wider profession

The intention within the service is to maintain this important function and over time look to further increase opportunities, though it is important that this is done in a sustainable way and only as increased staffing capacity allows. One area of particular focus will be to develop a strategy to offer work experience placements to students/adults with disabilities.

Vounteering at Ipswich Art School

More than 200 volunteers are already working with the Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service to enable free admission, six days a week to the Ipswich Art School gallery. Without their support the future of the Ipswich Art School simply could not be achieved.

Volunteering at the Art School offers a great opportunity to anyone with a keen interest in the arts, whether you are an Ipswich resident with a few hours to spare who would like to be part of this exciting new cultural venue, or a budding arts student who is looking for valuable experience for the future.
