Travel Information

Colchester and Ipswich are just 18 miles apart so why not make a day or weekend of your visit!

All of our venues are within the town centre and are approximately 5 minute's walking distance from each other.

Colchester

To reach Colchester by road, exit the A12 at junction 27 and follow the signs to the town centre.

There is no parking at the museums but they are all located in the town centre.  There are a number of car parks which you can use, the closest being Britannia and Priory Street.  Please visit http www.colchester.gov.uk/parking for up-to-date information.

The museums are a 5 minute walk from the bus station.

By rail Colchester is just 58 minutes on the mainline from London or Norwich, then just a 20 minute walk or short bus ride from Colchester's main station to the town centre. 
If you arrive at Colchester Town station, it is a 10 minute walk to the museums.

Ipswich

To reach Ipswich by road use the A12 or A14 and follow signs to Ipswich town centre.

There is no parking at the museums or art galleries but they are all located in the town centre.  There are a number of carparks that you can use, the closest being the Crown and Spiral car parks.  Please visit www.ipswich.gov.uk/parking for up-to-date information.

The museums and art galleries are a 5 minute walk from the bus station and a 10 minute bus journey or a 20 minute walk from the railway station.

Closure Notice for the Wolsey Art Gallery at Christchurch Mansion
