Colchester Castle monthly update, February 2013

Is it really a month and a half since Colchester Castle closed its doors?  So much has happened since then as the project rolls on.

Our ‘Romans on the Road’ sessions have been proving a hit with schools, with enthusiastic feedback from those who have hosted these fun and interactive days.  A costumed storyteller, complete with props and objects, creates drama and brings to life the Roman invasion and Boudica’s attack on Colchester.  The children get very involved too, and also get their hands on real archaeology as they find out more about life in Roman Colchester.  If you would like the Romans on the Road to visit your classroom, phone 01206 282937 to make your booking.

Our ‘Knight School’ days in March (to be held in the unique setting of Colchester Castle cleared of museum displays) are now almost fully booked, but phone in quick and you could still grab a place.  Your class will go onto the roof, meet characters and more.  Call now on 01206 282937.  Also proving popular are our ‘Gladiator Days’ to be held in the week of 3rd-7th June in Castle Park – book quickly to ensure your place.

Meanwhile the inside of Colchester Castle itself is now looking completely different to what schools and the public have ever seen.  With all objects now carefully stored away, the display cases and false walls have now been almost completely removed, and the castle is taking shape ready for our month of events, school days and public days in March and early April.  Check out our ‘What’s on’ pages to find out more about the public days.

Until next month
