Events at Colchester and Ipswich Museums
as part of Ipswich Arts Festival (IPArt)
15 June – 7 July
Perfectly positioned between the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the summer Olympics, the 2012 Ipswich Arts Festival promises entertainment, food for thought and fun for all the family. Why not join the fun and attend one of Colchester and Ipswich Museums events?
Do you have children aged between 7– 16yrs old? Do they enjoy art and crafts? If yes, then this event will be perfect for you. For one day only on Saturday 23 June, we are opening up our Young People’s Saturday Art Club to everyone! You can drop-in to Ipswich Art School anytime between 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm and 3.30pm and have a go at some creative activities and club members will be on hand to show you the ropes. This event is just £2 per person and there is no need to book.
Then at Ipswich Art School on Saturday 7 July at 2pm we are hosting a fun and interactive talk called ‘Artists as Parents as Artists’. This talk combines art and play and we are inviting family members of all ages to share your ideas about making art and viewing it in public spaces. As parents of young children, artists Townley and Bradby will draw from the current Saatchi show, and take you through some of the ideas and challenges around children’s involvement in artistic production. The talk will last approximately 1½ hours and costs £3 on the door (under 16s £1.50) or a family ticket for £10 (up to 5 people) and there is no need to book.
On Sunday 8 July from 12pm – 2pm, you will be able to find our ‘Ipswich Art School Gallery Pop-up Print Shop’ stand at The Indian Mela in Christchurch Park, Ipswich. Join-us and use a basic screen-print stencil technique to make a poster or decorate a T-shirt. Make a statement, celebrate your favourite band or just experiment with good old fashioned graphic design! To print an item will be £5 or bring your own plain t-shirt and it will only be £3.
If trails are more your thing… pop into Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich or Ipswich Art School between Friday 15 June until Sunday 8 July and take part in one of our fun trails! Get your time-travelling hand on and try out our multi-era quiz as you and your family discover the Mansion in a new way with our ‘Tardis Trail’. You will discover some interesting thing sabout the Mansion, it’s long history and the treasures it holds! Or just down the road at Ipswich Art School you can have a go at the quiz trail called ‘On the Trail of Saatchi’! This trail will help you and your family explore the current exhibition ‘Revisitations’. Both trails are just 50p a sheet and there is no need to book, just drop-in Tue – Sun, 10am to 5pm.
