Out of This World Half Term Fun!

You can reach for the stars at Ipswich Museum over half term, starting on Tuesday 19 February with our Terrific Telescopes activity. Here you have chance to make your own telescope and take it to explore the museum - it will change how you see everything!

 

Then on Wednesday 20 February you can enjoy our ‘Stars above Egypt’ Storytelling event. Join our Egyptian priest as he brings to life the myths around the gods linked to the stars, sun and moon. Following on from this theme, you can Catch a falling star on Thursday 21 February by creating your own starry night sky mobile.

 

Budding astronauts should blast off to our special visiting astrodome on Friday 22 February. The Planetarium Star Show will provide an incredible virtual space flight from earth to the outer edges of our solar system! See distant planets and their moons, galaxies and comets and find out about day and night, seasons, eclipses and much more as you travel through space on a journey of a lifetime.

 

The fun does not stop there! Let your creative juices run wild at Christchurch Mansion on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 February with our Creative Candle workshops. Use special coloured moulding wax, cutters and your imagination to add your own intricate patterns and designs to a plain white candle and transform it into a work of art.

 

If your budding young artists are still thirsty for more, take them across to Ipswich Art School’s Futurescapes workshops throughout Tuesday 19 - Friday 22 February. Here they will be able to create their own miniature landscapes using a variety of materials inspiring their imaginations.

 

We all know February half term can be cold and dark so why not brighten up the week by creating artwork that is woolly and snug at Colchester’s Natural History Museum with Warm and Woolly Pictures for Cold Days! You can create colourful, fuzzy felt pictures of hibernating creatures using a wet felting technique.

 

Or maybe you would prefer to make a personalised clay plaque – either for yourself or a present? You can do just that with our Carve your Name in Clay activity. Use cutters and clay tools to add names, decorations and patterns, then paint your masterpiece.
