Hollytrees Museum, Colchester
26th June 2012
This Remember When…? session is the last in the current series that start in February at Colchester and Ipswich Museums. The sessions will enable you to look back over days gone by and reminisce about your favourite memories while handling objects from our Memory Box collection.
This session looks back at favourite summer activities such as building sandcastles on the beach, camping in the Lake District or jetting off on a package tour. With our “Holidays” Memory Box as inspiration, you can share your stories of holiday camps, picnics and collecting sea-shells.
Reminiscence is fun and engaging for all age groups, but it is especially important for older people, especially those with early onset Alzheimer’s or dementia. It is highly beneficial to a sufferer’s inner self and their interpersonal skills.
A spokesperson at Colchester and Ipswich Museums said, “As the summer arrives, we’re looking back on holidays past and remembering the feeling of sand between our toes.”
Sessions begin at 3pm, with tea and coffee served throughout. The cost is just £2.50 per session (£2 for Friends of the Museum). There are limited places available, so sessions must be booked in advance by calling 01206 282940 or by dropping into Hollytrees Museum, Colchester (Tue-Sat 10am to 5pm or Sun 11am to 5pm).
This series of events are suitable for people who have a visual impairment.
This is just one of the many events that is happening at Colchester and Ipswich Museums, to find out more about our adults and families event programme visit www.cimuseums.org.uk/whats-on.
