Write like an Egyptian!

Scribe School Event
Ipswich Museum
Tuesday 14th – Friday 17th February

The ancient Egyptians are famed for their mystical hieroglyphs and symbols. Come along to Ipswich Museum this half-term, between Tuesday 14th and Friday 17th February, for your chance to learn more and try your hand at this ancient language.

Meet an Ancient Egyptian tutor who will guide you through a lesson in hieroglyphs and Egyptian writing techniques.

You will learn how to write on papyrus with reed brushes and you’ll be able to take home an example of your work to show your family and friends.

A spokesperson at Colchester and Ipswich Museums said, “Students in ancient Egypt had many things to learn. They spent hours copying hundreds of signs until they could make them well enough. This session is a fun way of learning about an interesting time in Egypt’s history and what school was like for students at that time.”

This activity is aimed for children over the age of six and costs just £2 per child. Scribe School sessions will be held at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. These sessions are very popular and must be book in advance by calling 01473 433691.

This is just one of the many events that are taking place this half-term at Colchester and Ipswich Museums. To find out what’s on please visit www.cimuseums.org.uk/whats-on.
