Calling all young Artists!
These fun and experimental art clubs enable participants to work with practicing artists to discover new techniques and develop artistic ideas.
Our team of experienced artist educators will guide groups through a variety of traditional and new media so you can get more out of the exhibitions on display within the Museum and the Gallery.
The emphasis for the autumn term will be looking at drawing and printing techniques, both traditional and experimental. The participants will have the opportunity to build a portfolio/ sketch book of their own work produced within the sessions.
Young participants can engage with:
• a practicing artists
• a range of media and ideas (traditional and new)
• a variety of activities inspired by the work on show and the collections
• other young people with shared interests with weeks dedicated to age groups 7- 11yrs and 11+

Hi, Why don't you do an art group for 5-7year olds? Seems really odd to cater for under 5's then over 7's and not the missed 5-7year olds. Really hope this can be done and looking forward to a group for my 5 year old! Thanks for your time!

Hello Wendy, thank you for your comment. We aim to provide a range of opportunities for people of all ages to actively and creatively engage with the museum collections, through our extensive activities and events programme. Our families events which we run every school holiday and half term and on special day weekend days throughout the year, are particularly aimed to appeal to children aged 4 to 10 years. For more information about these events please visit our ?what?s on? page or you can sign up to our e-newsletter. Thank you. The Saturday Art Club and Under 5s sessions have been introduced to provide more specific activities for younger and older children.

Hi! We're from Singapore and we will be in Colchester from 10th - 14th June and we are interested to know what the charges are for this particular event or if there are any charges at all.
Marketing Officer -11/05/2012 10:24
Hello Melanie, Thank you for your comment. The Saturday Art Club in Ipswich only runs during term time and on Saturday's. So this means that as it is 1/2 term week for schools there will not be a session running on 9th June. The nearest session is on 16th June and this is for children aged 7-11yrs. The sessions costs £10 per person and you would need to pre-book your space on 01473 433691. The Ipswich Art School Gallery is open Tues - Sun 10am to 5pm and admission is FREE. At this time in June, an exhibition called 'Revisitations' is showing. To find out more, please visit this exhibition listing on our What's On page. If you would like more information on Colchester in general can I suggest that you visit www.visitcolchester.co.uk. Thank you.

Hi there, we live in Germany and my daughter would like to come to the UK for a year to work. Would there be a possibility for her to join one of your art courses, as she would like to study art when she returns to Germany. Thank you .

Hello Sharon, Thank you for your enquiry. Our Saturday Art Club is for young people agaed between 7-11+ yrs old. We do occasionally run art classes for adults but at the moment we do not have any planned. There are a number of colleges and private classes in the area that you could look at. You could try calling the local Library for more information on 01206 245900 for more information. Kind regards, Laura

Hi my daughter Alicia just loves to go the Ipswich Art School and always looks forward to going there, it's just a shame it's every 2 weeks. I always wandered why you didn't do a session for the 7-11 group in the morning and the 11+ in the afternoon (or vice versa) but every week or would this be difficult to organise? Please advice. Many thanks. Kind regards.

Hello Anaick, It is great to hear that your daughter Alicia enjoys coming to the Saturday Art Club at Ipswich Art School. The sessions, especially for the 7 -11 year group are extremely popular and the bi-weekly sessions, alternating age groups ensures that we can meet demand for spaces. With the summer break and the new academic year in September, we are reviewing this and the age groups, so your feedback is much appreciated and very timely. Thank you.

My son suggests that you sometimes bring in male artists to run 7-11 sessions - thus far all the artists have been women.

This sounds wonderful - any plans to extend the Art Club to Colchester?
